Description
We are super stoked to be able to offer this amazing workshop; a unique experience designed to introduce YOU to simple techniques to create your own original urban art. There will be a strong focus on encouraging self expression and the techniques taught will support those who are less confident to explore their own ideas. Our instructor is a highly experienced artist and so more confident artists wishing to explore a new medium will also be well catered for. During the session you will learn basic techniques for drawing, spraying and lettering formation, including the use of stencilling. By developing confidence in these established techniques participants will then be encouraged to work on their own ideas. Participants will be working with artist quality pens and spray paints on various surfaces including paper, boards and pro-quality blank skateboard decks. The finished skateboard will be finished with a protective layer that will look great both hung on a wall or skated (trucks and wheels not included!) Participants will of course be able to take the skateboard deck home along with all their other work. All participants will also have the opportunity to display their work in the public gallery spaces at the
Clay Factory and the
Watermark in Ivybridge.
You will be working with renowned local artist, Jon Lilly, who is a highly experienced instructor and life-long grafitti artist. Jon painted one of the 40 sculptures for Elmer’s Big Parade in aid of St Luke’s Hospice in 2019. He has worked on large sets with the Barbican Theatre, his art also appears throughout the National Marine Aquarium and other prominent locations around Plymouth. Jon has over 20 years experience of working with local organisations including schools and youth groups and holds an enhanced DBS certificate. All materials including gloves and safety masks are provided.
The workshop will be held on Saturday 13th August between 1pm and 4pm at the fantastic Clay Factory, near Ivybridge, which is an established community hub offering unique art spaces, enterprise, food and events for the local area. The workshop is designed to be suitable for ALL abilities of secondary school pupils aged 12-17. Parents of children are welcome to stay to provide support / encouragement for their child if desired, however, additional help will be available from our volunteers alongside our Instructor Jon.
